KNOXVILLE, IOWA (June 21, 2006) - With the pre-entry deadline just one week away, ‘Team Knoxville’ is taking shape for the eighth annual Brodix ‘360’ Tournament of Champions invitational on Sunday, August 6. Amongst the entries received this week are from Knoxville Raceway regulars John Kearney of Valley Falls, Kansas, Dustin Lindquist of Floodwood, Minnesota, and 2002 ToC champion Josh Higday of Des Moines. In 2005, the home team dominated the tournament challenge points, 161-38, over its nearest competitor, the Sprint Invaders Association (SIA). Seventeen sanctions took part in the Brodix Tournament of Champions last year, with 24 set to take the track in 2006.

According to Knoxville’s director of racing Ralph Capitani, “I think Knoxville Raceway will put another strong 15-member team on the track for this year’s tournament, but I certainly don’t look for the kind of domination that we saw last year. I think the combination of a new spec tire rule and poor track conditions created a unique situation for the local teams in 2005. I think the invading teams will be a little more prepared this year!”

The one-day $5,000-to-win international invitational for the top stars and cars in ‘360’ sprint car racing utilizes one common set of technical rules, including use of the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Brodix spec head. Tournament team points were as follows in 2005: KNOX (161 points), SIA (38), WOW (35), NCRA (30), ASCS (29), URC (27), ASCS-Midwest (25), WISSOTA (21), NST (19), NRA (18), PSG (16), ESS (13), ASCS-Sooner (10), SOS (9), SOD (8), ESTS (5), and SCCA-Avalon/Premier (1 point).

The technical rules for the Brodix Tournament of Champions are set by the Knoxville Raceway. They will be similar to those used for the ASCS-sanctioned $10,000-to-win Knoxville 360 Nationals on August 3-4-5, except for the Knoxville 360 Nationals ban on cockpit-adjustable devices other than for the forward/backward motion of the top wing.
