The
Canadian Sprint Car Championships event scheduled for
September 18th, 2004 at Ohsweken Speedway just got
bigger and has taken on an international flavor! An
agreement has been reached to make the Canadian
Championships event a qualifier for the August 12th,
2005 Fleet Buying Group World Challenge (formerly Kele
World Challenge) in Knoxville, Iowa.
All drivers from Canada, Australia and New
Zealand that compete in the Canadian Sprint Car
Championships will be eligible to race in the 2005 Fleet
Buying Group World Challenge.
United States competitors are more than welcome
to participate at Ohsweken, but they will not be
eligible to qualify for the World Challenge at the
Canadian event.
The
twelfth annual Fleet Buying Group World Challenge will
again feature a $40,000 purse with $10,000 going to the
winner. Drivers
from around the world must qualify for this event by
participating in specified races in one of four
countries to host qualifiers.
This is the first year 360-cubic-inch sprint car
drivers from Canada will be eligible, even though the
actual Fleet Buying Group World Challenge will be a 410
c.i. sprint car race.
This special, international event will take place
during the 45th annual Knoxville Nationals week in
southern Iowa.
The
Ohsweken event will be one of six international
qualifiers for the 2005 Fleet Buying Group World
Challenge. Two
races in New Zealand, along with one each in Australia
and Knoxville, USA have been scheduled, and it is
expected that a western Canadian event in Edmonton may
also be added as a qualifier in the Spring of 2005.
