The 2001 season was comprised of 14 races in
addition to the Canadian Sprint Car
Championships. It also saw the addition of
another speedway to the series when Merrittville
Speedway staged it's first SOS event in August, a
race won by Rick Wilson. Other feature
winners included; Warren Mahoney and Keith
Dempster both with 4 wins, Rick Wilson with a pair
and Ryan Coniam, George Ely, Tim Phillips, Mike
Galajda and Dick Mahoney each posting one
victory. The Canadian Sprint Car
Championship was captured by Mike Woodring for the
second consecutive year.
The battle for the championship once again came
down to the final event, which seems to be the
norm for this very competitive series. Keith
Dempster, the defending series champion, fought a
tough battle all season long with Warren
Mahoney. In the end, Mahoney came out the
victor taking his first SOS Points
Championship.
The battle for the rookie title was just as
intense. New-comers Curt Sherwood and Adam
West chased each other all season long with
Sherwood eventually coming out on top by a mere
single point capturing the rookie honours.
