SOUTHERN ONTARIO SPRINTS UNVEIL 2007 SCHEDULE

The Southern Ontario Sprints entering their second season under the direction of President Bill Oldroyd, are pleased to announce their 2007 schedule of events. Seventeen dates make up the 12th season tour with thirteen point events set to determine who will be crowned the season champion.

Two time and defending champion Warren Mahoney of Lefroy, Ontario will lead the group to the track as the season kicks off on Saturday night, May 12th as Mark Rinaldi and Brighton Speedway play host to the traveling Southern Ontario Sprint Car series. Brighton will also host SOS events June 9th; July 7th; August 11th; and on September 1st & 2nd, Labour Day weekend.

Following the opener at Brighton, the series moves on to the first of four point shows at the Styres family owned Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night, May 18th. They return to the fast 3/8 mile clay oval on June 8th; August 10th; and September 7th when the season ending championship will be contested.

The final speedway hosting championship point events for 2007 is South Buxton Raceway in South Buxton, Ontario. The first of three races at the exciting Chatham area facility is slated for June 23rd with return appearances on July 14th and August 4th.

Southern Ontario Sprints will once again support the annual “Tournament of Champions” held August 5th at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville, Iowa. The 360 “Invitational Only” event encourages the best teams from all over the United States and Canada to assemble at the fabled Knoxville Raceway during the “Southern Iowa Speedweek” for a one day showdown

Saturday, August 25th also appears on the schedule as the stars of the SOS are invited to Genesee Speedway under the direction of Mike Lauterborn when they play host to a New York State, 360 Showdown between the Empire Super Sprints and the ASCS Patriots.

The season closer comes on Friday & Saturday, September 14th & 15th at Ohsweken Speedway when the Southern Ontario Sprints will join with the Empire Super Sprints and ASCS Patriots from New York, the ASCS Sprints On Dirt from Michigan along with the Ohio based NRA Invaders to contest the third annual “Canadian Sprint Car Nationals”. $7,000 will go to the winner from the nearly $50,000 posted purse with 26 cars to start the main event.

And finally, November 10th will see the crowning of the 2007 point champion as SOS teams and fans will gather once again at the “Best Western Cairn Croft Hotel” in Niagara Falls for the annual awards banquet.

With opening day only four months away, teams both old and new are preparing for what is shaping up to be the most competitive season yet. Make plans now so you won’t miss any of the action as the “Winged Warriors With An Attitude” travel to a speedway near you.
