Q&A with: Cody Geldart

You have a solid history of success in mini-sprints, how do you think that experience will translate into success with the SOS?
I think it has helped me alot because everything a micro sprint has, a sprint car basically has, just that the sprint car is alot bigger. A micro sprint also reacts sort of like a Sprint Car, which helped me out, so I knew what the 360 was going to feel like a bit when I first got in the car.
What has been involved in getting your team & car put together to race 360 sprints?
Just spending lots of money! (haha) The car is the cheap part and then getting the motor is a different story. We then had to get some spare parts and accessories that we would need. It then took alot of time to get race ready because when you get working on the car then you need some more parts that you don't have and then you have to run around get some other parts you need which takes up some more time. But when everything is together and ready to race it's a great feeling.
Family and friends are obviously key in the operation of any racing team, who have been some of the key people who have gotten you to this next level?
Some of the key people in my operation would definitely have to be my Dad because he was the one who had got me started into racing at the age of 5.  I imagine that he will always be there to support my racing career and then my brother also helps around the car most of the time if he is at the track with us.
With a third place finish at the Canadian Sprint Car Championship, in just a handful of 360 starts,  how will you carry that momentum over to 2004?
I will be just trying to win as many races as I can and placing up front as much as possible.
Have there been any veterans in particular that have given you advice on setups or driving?  Who has been the most influencial?
Yes I have had lots of help from other drivers and crew chiefs from other teams. First of all, Brian Kemenah(4 Time ALLSTAR Mechanic-of-the-year) has been alot of help by helping us down in Florida when we ran down there and telling me some driving tips. Chad Kemenah (2 Time ALLSTAR Champ) also had helped me out alot by telling me some different strategies of his own and just some other little tips. Danny Lasoski had also gave me a few pointers on how to get around the tracks down in Florida while I was there. I think Brian Kemenah would be most influential because if it wasn't for him we probably wouldn't have done as well as we did in Florida and he will be willing to help us out whenever possible.
After seeing Billy Krull and Kyle Patrick get national recognition as rookies does it add pressure to you as a driver or does it give you another goal to shoot for in 2004?
It adds a little pressure on to me during the season. But I'll just race my race and If I get some rookie recognition then that will be great.  It would be really nice to have being nominated for the National Sprint Car Poll 360 Rookie of the year award on my resume.
What was it like competing at the ESS/URC Challenge event at Rolling Wheels last October?
Just the same as any other race event.  We had lots of problems so we did really bad but we learned some stuff which is always really important. Other then the problems we had it was a fun experience.  The ESS/URC guys are a good bunch of guys and I will definitely be attending some more of there events in the future.
