Q&A: 2003 Champ Glenn Styres

Looking back on the championship season of 2003 what areas do you look to improve in to repeat as champion?
New equipment!  My cars were 3yrs or older.  With lots of laps on them.  My engines were old and worn out.  I would like to try different setups this year.  We seem to run the same set up everywhere.
What was the deciding factor, moment or event that helped you capture the 2003 title?
Buying Ryan Coniams car and hiring his crew chief (Kevin Loveys).  Getting the points lead.
Being the owner/promoter of Ohsweken Speedway as well as an SOS driver must be hectic. You have obviously been very successful at it. How do you balance the two?
The track is my priority.  The race car is second.  Having the racing on Friday nights is nice because it opens my week-ends up to race and spend time with my family.
How did you and your family celebrate the holidays this year?
We had a staff Christmas party at Carmans in Hamilton.  We also had Turkey dinner with my family (Mom,  Brothers and Sisters.)
Are there any new plans for Ohsweken Speedway in 2004?
Oh ya!  For starters a new 100x40 building to house washrooms,  concessions and Tech.  This tech will include the visiting clubs also like SOS, thunder cars and Great lakes late models.  We also expanded the pond 10 times bigger then last year.  We have graveled the laneway in and built a very nice sprint car warm up track.  We also bought two sets of portable lighting for the pits.
What goals have you and your team set for 2004, how many sprint events do you intend on competing in?
2004 we plan on going to Florida for 3 weeks.  I want to shake down the new cars and promote the track and the SOS club.  I'd like to do more ESS shows and Patriots.  I did several SOD shows,  they were very nice.  I plan on doing about 30 shows all together and I'm going to run SOS full time and part time with SOD,  PATRIOTS AND ESS.  I also plan on running with the World of Outlaws when they come to Rolling wheels.  Mike and Erin did pretty good with their 360's, also we plan to run the tournament of champions in Knoxville.
